The liberation of the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt is a central event in Old Testament prophecies. God prophesied to Moses that He would lead His people out of Egyptian oppression and lead them to the Promised Land, Canaan. Furthermore, on Mount Sinai, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments and the Law, which established the moral and religious basis for the lives of the people of Israel.
