For Herod himself had given orders to arrest John, tie him up and put him in prison, because of Herodias, Philip's wife, her brother, with whom he had married.
18 For John said to Herod: "It is not lawful for you to live with your brother's wife".
19 So, Herodias hated him and wanted to kill him.. but he couldn't do it,
20 For Herod feared John and protected him., knowing that he was a righteous and holy man; and when I heard him, I was perplexed. I still liked to hear it though.
21 Finally an opportune moment arrived. On your birthday, Herod offered a banquet for his most important leaders, to the military commanders and leading figures of Galilee.
22 When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced, pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the young woman: "Ask me anything you want, e I will give you".
23 And he promised him with an oath: "Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, to half of my kingdom".
24 She went out and told her mother: "What will I ask for?? " "The head of John the Baptist", she replied.
25 Immediately the young woman hurried to present herself to the king with the request: "I wish you would give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a plate".
26 The king was very distressed, but because of your oath and the guests, did not want to deny the young woman's request.
27 So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John's head. The man was, beheaded John in prison 28 and brought his head on a platter. He handed it to the young woman, and she gave it to her mother.
29 Having heard this, John's disciples came, they took his body and placed it in a tomb.
