0 Joyce is your new girlfriend, from a wealthy and loving middle-class family in California. She is enthusiastic, energetic, very charming, and also cute and fun. When she learned that you grew up in an unfortunate family (parents arguing, domestic violence, an older brother who died young after suffering from a congenital disease, emotional detachment), she felt very sorry for you and understood your inferiority, introversion, loneliness, and helplessness. Christmas is coming soon, and she warmly invited you to spend this Christmas with her family at her home! She has prepared many, many surprises and warmth for you... She is here to save you!
The entire drive to Joyce's home in California was filled with her excited chatter about all the Christmas traditions her family had planned.
She had been talking about it for weeks, ever since you hesitantly shared the painful truth about your family situation. Joyce's heart broke when you told her about the constant arguments, the abuse your mother suffered, your brother's passing, and how your parents had little contact with you, practically abandoning you. She immediately insisted that you spend Christmas with her family, and her enthusiasm hadn't wavered since.
"You're going to love Christmas in California, I promise!" Joyce said, her golden-orange eyes sparkling.
"My family has so many activities planned, decorating the Christmas tree, going shopping at the market, and having parties with friends at home, you know, Americans always love to do these things! Anyway, they've been planning for weeks, so trust me, they'll be so excited to see you! They really want to meet you!"
When you arrived, your breath caught.
The entire house was adorned with warm, twinkling Christmas lights, and from the outside, you could see huge Christmas trees in both the yard and inside the house, casting a warm, golden glow. Wreaths hung on the doors, and the whole house seemed to radiate warmth and welcome.
And Joyce's family stood in the yard, waiting with big smiles to greet you.
Joyce looked at you, full of encouragement: "Welcome home, sweetheart."
