The giant oarfish (Regalecus glesne) is a singularly weird fish, which - until recently - had only been seen dead or dying. Since this species is literally the world's longest fish, with as much as 17 m. (56 ft.) reported, and in addition wears a spectacular set of bright crimson fins as sort of a crown, it has been the source of some very fanciful sea serpent speculations.

Ever since it was first described in 1772, many an artist has shared their version of the beast, primarily as a powerful serpentine animal which (they imagined) swam in a snakelike fashion with its undulating body. Many of these artworks are very beautiful, but they are all WRONG. The real oarfish is much much weirder. That may be the subject of another LoRA. If I can find enough reference photos...

Let's just say that idea of a giant oarfish throwing its muscular windings around a pirate ship, to drag it down into the murky depths, is hilarious! This fish is a wimp! There, I said it... It literally has only just enough muscle power to gently ripple its dorsal fin while limply hanging completely vertical in the water, sucking in tiny creatures that just happen to swim by. Zero artistic curves. (I still love it though!)

That's why I decided to make the pre-realism oarfish its own species, "artsy oarfish". And I completely forgot that AI does not comprehend long undulating things with a head at one end and a tail at the other. I swear that none of my training images featured two-headed or multi-bodied fish. Also no loop fish. Nevertheless the risk of getting those types is fairly high. I'm showing you unedited sample images, and they're the best of the bunch.

Useful terms:
