Marvin 'the Paranoid Android' is the robot aboard the starship Heart of Gold in Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.

Marvin has a "brain the size of a planet" which he never gets the chance to use. Instead, the crew requests him to carry out mundane jobs such as "opening the door"; meaning no given task could occupy even the tiniest fraction of his vast intellect, resulting in his depressed/bored nature [thanks in-part to Sirius Cybernetics Corporation's GPP (Genuine People Personalities) technology].
