Originally Created as a One-Off Character: Supergirl was first introduced in 1958 as a one-time character in "Superman #123" in a story where Jimmy Olsen wishes for a "Super-Girl" with a magic totem. She was meant to disappear by the end of the story, but fan interest led to her becoming a recurring character.
