There was a stillness in the air just then--as though the breeze that was dressing me was contemplating its next move. Then the row of gowns floating in the air before me divided in the middle, and a dress more magnificent than any of the others floated through the gap. It was made of pure white velvet--whiter and brighter than the marble walls and the carpet of the room. The fabric gleamed even brighter because of the silver embroidery that was sewn everywhere on it--more roses, thistles, and fleurs-de-lis, the silver sparkling nearly as white as the velvet. Silver lace trimmed the neckline and the puffed sleeves, and the massive skirts were adorned with bows and draperies of silver tissue, the delicate fabric floating above the heavy velvet and glittering with the tiny diamonds that were sewn onto it. Diamonds sparkled from the silver lace, and gleamed from the silver embroidery. Pearls were swagged and draped across the neckline, the waistline, and all around the enormous velvet overskirt. It was a dress that would make the vainest princess gasp, a gown unsurpassed in its splendour...and as I watched, it began to float toward me.
