The canopy of leaves and branches overhead creaked and groaned under the weight of the water, sending cascades pouring down to the forest floor. In a small clearing, a twisted, gangly creature cackled with glee, the rain plastering his thin hair to his skull-like head. "We loves the rain, precious, we does!" gurgled Gollum. He splashed gleefully in the mud like a deranged child, his huge eyes reflecting the dim gray light. Lightning flashed dramatically, throwing his skinny body into sharp relief. Thunder boomed and rumbled across the sky as Gollum threw back his head, mouth open wide in a manic laugh that echoed through the trees. "Gollum, gollum!" he choked out between shrieks of laughter. Mud dripped from his loincloth as he capered about, the rain washing away all traces of where he had been, obscuring his tracks. The storm seemed to thrill him, driving him into a frenzy of movement, his bizarre figure gyrating madly in the downpour amidst the dripping leaves and swollen streams. Lightning flashed again, the stark white light gleaming off his slick skin and glowing eyes, his shrill laugh rising even over the roar of thunder.
