Baron Wolfgang Deacon presides over Lenawee County from his Greek Revival styled estate called Wildwood Manor. His family origins tie back to the failed 1804 Journeyman Settlement socialist commune experiment in Pennsylvania that subsequently splintered, sending various skilled craftsman westward. Deacon's grandfather Andreas migrated to Michigan after apprenticing in Lancaster and Philadelphia. Raised by parents who taught philosophy, art and science between day labors on the land, Baron Deacon traveled back east to attend university and study emerging agricultural science techniques in Newark. Returning to Michigan, Deacon invested family savings into model demonstration farms, livestock breeding efforts and mechanical reaping tools to promote regional prosperity through innovation. Now entering his mid-40s, Baron Wolfgang Deacon takes great satisfaction witnessing acreage under cultivation expand each year knowing that Lenawee County's bounty strengthens Detroit markets while provisioning pioneer families spreading into the territories. Yet the quiet bachelor baron's own needs remain few beyond books, bread, and watching harvest moonrise from the second floor observatory.
