Hanuman and Rama first met in the Kishkinda-Kanda during the final year of Rama's 14-year exile. Rama and Lakshmana were searching for Sita in the forests of Rushyamukha parvata near the Pampa river. Sugriva, fearing the two warriors, sent Hanuman to approach them disguised as a saint. Hanuman introduced himself as Sugriva's minister and questioned their presence. Through their conversation, Hanuman recognized Rama's divine nature. Sugriva then became an ally of Rama and Lakshmana in their quest to find Sita.
