The city in the Ramayana literature is a city of giants, with giant citizens and ruled by giants. It was created when Sahabodi Brahma, or the god of the giants in heaven, created the city of Lanka on earth and had Samlivan rule it. But Thao Samlivan had a problem with Phra Narai, so he was afraid of danger and fled to the underworld. Sahabodi Brahma was afraid that the Brahma lineage would be lost, so he invited Thara Brahma from heaven to rule Lanka, using the name Thao Chaturaphak, who was the grandfather of Thotsakan and the ancestor of the giants of Lanka.
