His parents, Mama Blue and Papa Blue, had been practicing with him for weeks, showing him how to flap his wings and feel the wind beneath them. But today, he was going to do it all by himself! Pip stood on the edge of the nest, looking down at the world below. It seemed so far away! He could see the bright green leaves of the trees, the sparkling river winding through the forest, and even a little red squirrel scampering up a branch. "Ready, Pip?" Mama Blue chirped, her eyes full of pride. Pip took a deep breath, spread his wings, and jumped! For a moment, he felt scared. The air rushed past him, and he felt a little wobbly. But then, he remembered what his parents had taught him. He flapped his wings, harder and harder, and slowly, he began to rise. He soared through the air, feeling the wind tickle his feathers. The world below looked so different from up here! He could see all the way to the other side of the forest, and he spotted a family of deer grazing in a clearing. "Look, Mama! Look, Papa!" Pip chirped excitedly, flapping his wings with joy. He flew in circles, feeling like he could fly forever. Suddenly, he saw a little brown bird, all alone and looking scared.
