Siamese fighting fish or ปลากัดไทย (Thai Betta) is a small freshwater fish that belongs to the subfamily Macropodusinae in the family Osphronemidae. It has a slender and laterally flattened body, a small head, large eyes, and a mouth that can breathe air from the surface. The male fish has brown, red, blue or green colors, and a round tail with red and yellow stripes. The female fish is pale and smaller than the male. The average length is about 5-6 centimeters. It is native to Thailand and some parts of Southeast Asia. It lives in shallow and still waters, such as ponds, lakes, and canals. It is aggressive and territorial, especially towards other males of the same species. It feeds on larvae, red mites, water mites, and bloodworms
