Once upon a time there was a potato named Spud who lived on a farm. Spud was an ordinary potato who spent his days growing in the dirt. But Spud had big dreams - he wanted to go to outer space! One day, some scientists came to the farm looking for a potato to send to Mars. They needed to grow food on Mars as part of an experimental colony. The scientists picked Spud to go on the journey! Spud was very excited as the scientists loaded him onto a rocket ship. "I'm going to Mars!" he said. The rocket blasted off in a burst of smoke and fire. Spud felt his sprouts tingle as the rocket soared into space. After a long trip through the solar system, the rocket finally landed on Mars. Spud was planted in Martian soil inside a special greenhouse dome. At first the soil was rough and dry, but soon Spud was growing well. "This Martian soil isn't so bad," Spud said. As the days went by, Spud grew bigger and bigger. The Martian sunlight felt warm on his leaves. Soon Spud became the first full-grown potato on Mars! The scientists were very happy. Spud's success meant that potatoes could grow on Mars, and someday help feed Martian explorers. "One small spud for a plant, one giant root for potato-kind!" Spud said proudly. Spud the potato lived out the rest of his days happily growing on Mars. His journey had taken him farther than any potato had gone before! And all because he dared to dream big.
