第二次世界大戦でドイツ軍が使用したオートバイの前輪をトラクターに装着したようなユニークな外見の半装軌車である。
本来は空挺作戦時の牽引等が主目的だったのだが、その悪路走破性、牽引力等から陸・海軍にまで広く活躍した車両である。
映画「プライイベート・ライアン」やアニメ「少女終末旅行」によってミリタリーファン以外にもその姿は知れ渡っている。
戦後も生産は続けられ、林業・農業従事者によって愛用され続けた車両である。
ユニークなその外見ゆえか、AIも理解しづらいのか、なかなか良好な結果が帰ってきません。
「誰も乗っていないのに走ってる！」「前輪が前にも後ろにもある！」というのはザラです。

「プライベート・ライアン」の何が凄かったって、冒頭のオマハ・ビーチのシーンはもちろんなんですが、
中盤に出てくるこのケッテンクラートの機動性ですよ。
車両自体は小学生の頃から知ってたんですが、「せいぜい悪路をガラガラと荷物を牽引するくらいだろう」なんて思ってたら・・
速い！なんだあの機動性は！と映画の本筋そっちのけで驚いたモンです。
なんでも理論上は時速70kmはでるそうですね、ドライバーは悲惨な事になるそうですが。
その他、"last tour"という文言を入れると、少女終末旅行で使用された車体に切り替わるよう仕組んだつもりだったのですが、
思いの外効果的ではありませんね・・。
