Cobie Smulders, born Jacoba Francisca Maria Smulders on April 3, 1982, in Vancouver, Canada, is a Canadian-American actress best known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky in How I Met Your Mother and as Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Before pursuing acting, she initially aspired to be a doctor or marine biologist. She started her career in modeling, which led her to travel internationally, before transitioning into acting with roles in TV shows like Jeremiah and Veritas: The Quest.

She gained widespread recognition with How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014), and later established herself in Hollywood with major roles in Marvel films, including The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. She has also starred in series like Stumptown and Secret Invasion.
