Lily James is a British actress, born Lily Chloe Ninette Thomson on April 5, 1989, in Esher, Surrey, England. She is the daughter of Ninette Mantle, an actress, and Jamie Thomson, an actor and musician. Her grandmother, Helen Horton, was also an American actress. Lily James began her education at the Arts Educational School in Tring and later studied acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, graduating in 2010.

James gained widespread recognition for her role as Lady Rose MacClare in the television series "Downton Abbey." She further established her career with her portrayal of Cinderella in Disney's live-action adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Other notable works include "Baby Driver," "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again," and "Rebecca." Lily James is known for her versatility and ability to bring depth to a wide range of characters.
