The Rani is a villainous Time Lord from Doctor Who, introduced in the classic series. She is a rogue scientist with no moral scruples, focused purely on her experiments, often at the expense of entire civilizations. Unlike the Master, who seeks power, the Rani is driven by her scientific pursuits and views others as mere test subjects.

The actress who played the Rani in the classic Doctor Who series was Kate O'Mara. She first appeared as the character in the 1985 serial "The Mark of the Rani", opposite the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and the Master (Anthony Ainley). She reprised the role in the Seventh Doctor’s era in "Time and the Rani" (1987).

Kate O'Mara was well known for playing strong, glamorous, and often villainous roles, including her work on Dynasty and Triangle. The Rani remains one of the most notable female antagonists in Doctor Who history.
