The Duchy of Clinton Article DRAFT PUBLIC Situated among the inland plains and low glacial hills of the kingdom’s heartland, Clinton is an agricultural domain providing essential grains, produce and livestock to feed the royal court. It is ruled by Baron DeWitt, descendant of Clinton’s original pioneer settlers, who oversees the duchy from his familial estate Dewitt Manor. Well watered by streams and brooks, Clinton’s undulating terrain supports abundant crops. Fields of wheat, oats, corn and barley ripple across gentle slopes while vegetable gardens and orchards thrive around farmhouses. Mills along the Maple and Looking Glass rivers process grains and saw lumber. Flocks of sheep and cattle also graze fertile meadows. Clinton’s bountiful harvests are transported by wagon or river barge down the Grand River, flowing into Lake Michigan. From there victuals are distributed across the kingdom, filling royal and noble larders. Surpluses are sold to merchants who trade along Clinton’s network of well-maintained roads and rivers. The common folk working this land are the families of original pioneer settlers. They reside in neat homesteads and small villages clustered around thriving parishes. Though life remains based around agriculture, fine manners are maintained here befitting Clinton's St. John family heritage.
