III. Practical Guide: Bring Your Story to Life in 3 Steps!

Every great short film relies on several key elements: expressive performers, a compelling storyboard script, and precise control over visuals and style. Wan 2.6 brings all of these together into a complete creative loop. In the following steps, you will experience firsthand how to think like a director and utilize these capabilities to bring your ideas to life as vivid videos.

1. Step One: Choose Your Cast

The first step for a director is to find a lead who can bring your imagination to life. In Wan 2.6, you can define a character's appearance, demeanor, and even subtle emotions, keeping the character consistent across every shot. In addition to using Text to Video or Image to Video, you can also specify a particular character to star in your work.

1.1 Define the Protagonist with Text

If you already have a character concept in mind but no reference image, you can describe the character's appearance, outfit, and temperament in concise text, along with basic emotions. Wan 2.6 will generate a short video featuring the corresponding character.

1.2 Define the Protagonist with an Image

If you already have an image—whether it is a character, an object, or any other element, simply upload it. Wan 2.6 can bring the content of the image to life exactly as you intend. From head turns and hand waves to object movement and facial expression changes, static images can be transformed into dynamic performances.

This is a brand new highlight of Wan 2.6. You can directly upload the character you want to appear in the video yourself or a well known IP character. During creation, reference the character using [Character Name], and the specified character will appear consistently in every scene. You can even upload two characters to enable dialogue and interaction, giving your short film truly personalized expression.
