Veronica Lake (1922-1973), born Constance Frances Marie Ockelman, was an American actress. In the early to mid-1940s, she was a major movie femme fatale, starring in Sullivan's Travels, This Gun for Hire, The Glass Key, and The Blue Dahlia. Her blonde peek-a-boo hairstyle became iconic. Sadly, she was a noxious alcoholic whose behavior alienated Hollywood just a few years after reaching stardom. After being dumped by Paramount in 1948, she disappeared from the industry, resurfacing some years later as a cocktail waitress in New York. She had only two small film roles between 1951 and her death — of cirrhosis caused by decades of drinking, in 1973.
