Text Design Project: Using only letter forms, create six small-scale typographic designs in the page layout indicated in the brainstorm worksheet. Address the following concepts in the six designs; scale, -+space, pattern, congestion, tension, and playful. The essence of each design is to be created using specific type fonts in an expressive composition. Research text styles in a word software and check out the expressive style used in lettering. You can express many concepts through articulate typeface; vintage, contemporary, retro, feminine, masculine, etc. Consider way to creatively use text in compositions. Text font style is your choice for each design, but the worksheet does give ideas on possible choices. All six drawings are formal exercises in seeing letter forms as another element of design to be fully articulated in composition.
