Christina María Aguilera, born December 18, 1980, in Staten Island, NY, is an American recording artist, actress, and television personality. She is noted for her four-octave vocal range and use of melisma in her music. Aguilera spent most of her childhood in Wexford, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh. There, she performed the National Anthem at various sporting events, including Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates games, and became known locally as the “little girl with the big voice.”

In 1993, alongside other future stars like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Ryan Gosling, Aguilera joined the cast of Disney’s “The New Mickey Mouse Club,” remaining on the show for its final two seasons. Aguilera later recorded "Reflection,” the theme for the 1998 Disney film “Mulan,” and signed a record deal with RCA Records. She rose to fame in 1999 with her self-titled debut album, which featured the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles, "Genie in a Bottle," "What a Girl Wants,” and "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You).” In 2000, Aguilera won a Grammy for Best New Artist and released two albums, the Spanish-language “Mi Reflejo” and the holiday record “My Kind of Christmas." Next, Aguilera collaborated with P!nk, Mýa, and Lil’ Kim on the single “Lady Marmalade,” which topped the Hot 100 for five weeks, and with Ricky Martin on a remixed version of his song “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely.”

In 2002, Aguilera released her second studio album, “Stripped.”  It eschewed the bubblegum-pop trappings of her debut, with songs focusing on ???, domestic ????????, mental health, and other subjects that were still considered taboo. Though the initial response was tepid, “Stripped” eventually became one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century, largely due to the immense success of second single “Beautiful.” Aguilera underwent another reinvention with the release of her third studio album, “Back to Basics” (2006), a throwback record inspired by old-school jazz/soul music.

Throughout the early 2010s, Aguilera had a moderately successful period with the albums “Bionic” (2010) and “Lotus” (2012), with their respective lead singles, "Not Myself Tonight" and "Your Body," topping the US Dance Club Songs chart. She starred in the 2010 film “Burlesque” and contributed to its soundtrack, earning a Golden Globe Award nomination. Aguilera returned to the top of the charts with a string of collaborations: "Feel This Moment" with Pitbull, “Say Something" with A Great Big World, and "Moves like Jagger" with Maroon 5. which reached No. 1 on the Hot 100. In the subsequent years, she released two albums: “Liberation” (2018) and the Spanish-language “Aguilera” (2022).

Her concurrent ventures have included roles in the television series “Nashville” and the films “The Emoji Movie” (2017) and “Zoe” (2018), becoming an ambassador for the World Food Programme (WFP), co-founding the wellness company Playground, and serving as a coach on the reality competition show “The Voice” from 2011–2016. In 2024, she was named a Disney Legend, in recognition for her contributions to The Walt Disney Company.
