The most significant event in Imam Sajjad's life was the Battle of Karbala, which took place on the 10th of Muharram in 680 AD (61 AH). Imam Hussain, along with 72 of his companions, was martyred by the forces of Yazid ibn Muawiya, the Umayyad caliph. Imam Sajjad was present at Karbala but was too ill to participate in the battle. This illness, however, spared his life, as he was not seen as a threat by Yazid's forces and hide the character face.
