I have some hidden stories. Dare to hear them?
And oddly enough, it's a serious movie we're talking about. But yes, this sultry characterization of Connery's character almost puts everything on the line — and if that's any encouragement, know that this isn't your worst moment, because by the end of the film, Mr. Connery comes up in a wedding dress. But harder than not giving up everything after seeing the combination of mustache-red suntail-ponytail-boots, is to endure the first 5 or 10 minutes, which give the impression that something very bad is coming. Except that it doesn't. What we actually have is one of the most underrated films in history, from one of the most underrated directors in history, John Boorman (of "Deliverance"!). Therefore, I prefer to think that the first few minutes are to test the viewer, a test that only the intelligent will resist. So be smart, because above any social criticism it provides, "Zardoz" is genuine science fiction, and one of the exponents of the experimentalism of Hollywood's last Golden Age.
