It was a clear summer night in Reed City when the first warning came - a bright flash in the sky as the asteroid entered the atmosphere. Travelling at thousands of miles per hour, the massive space rock glowed red hot as it descended towards the unsuspecting town. People stepped outside to see what looked like a second sun plummeting to the earth. Before panic could set in, the asteroid slammed into the ground just outside of town with a thunderous boom, sending a shockwave rippling through the community. A crater hundreds of feet deep and over a mile wide was forged instantaneously from the force of the impact. Inside the crater, the asteroid continued to glow molten hot, having vaporized on impact. The homes closest to ground zero were obliterated in an instant, reduced to splinters and ashes by the intense heat and pressure. Further into town, roofs were torn off houses, windows shattered, trees uprooted and cars overturned by the blast. As the smoke cleared, the true scale of the devastation became apparent. The center of Reed City was destroyed, with numerous homes and businesses leveled. Injured and dazed residents staggered through the rubble-strewn streets in shock and disbelief. The crater still smoked ominously, a testament to the otherworldly force that had decimated their community in mere seconds. Recovery would be long and painful for the resilient people of Reed City. But for now, all they could do was band together and start the process of rebuilding what remained of their town.
