Arafed building in the middle of a forest with a lot of trees

The once-bustling downtown is now desolate ruins. Empty skyscrapers crumble, their glass windows shattered and steel frames corroding. The old public park, however, remains verdant and overgrown, completely rewilded. At the center towers the massive oak tree, even broader now without foot traffic compacting its root zones. Its gnarled trucks and boughs are wrapped in thick green curtains of ivy and rambling vines. The branches host birds, squirrels, and insects that haven't been seen downtown in over a century. The cracked cornerstone from centuries past lies partially buried under moss and fungi. The food carts, bike racks, and bus stops are all gone, with saplings emerging in their place. The routes below the surface have caved in or flooded, leaving only remnants of pipes and cables strewn among the tree roots. In an apartment high up in one of the few remaining towers, the hidden camera still somehow functions. But its images only occasionally capture treeswaying in the wind or creatures sheltering within the oak's canopy. Any pedestrians it once monitored have vanished long ago. The old bank vault remains too, now flooded and home to fish and salamanders that drifted down from the world above. The paperwork dissolved eons ago. Without people present to routinely unlock its massive door, the vault will keep its final secrets. The oak tree now dominates the landscape of collapsed architecture and feral flora. Its longevity outpaced human civilization here. With none left to carve initials or add street art graffiti across its bark, the tree withdraws into itself - a witness of bygone eras now observing forests reclaiming what culture leaves behind when choices shift the fate of societies. Mossy ruins intertwine with enduring nature, cycles of destruction and regeneration playing out amidst the ancient oak's quiet wisdom.
